«The Library of Ourselves» is an interdisciplinary and distributed project to promote transformative encounters between communities in conflict. Built using «The Machine To Be Another», it’s a highly adaptable system that bridges cognitive science and virtual reality to create empathic-driven experiences. Research has shown that inducing the illusion of being another has great potential for reducing bias and promoting altruism.
«The Library of Ourselves» allows users to exchange perspectives, bodies and stories. It’s an ever-growing archive of real-life stories that are co-produced with the community, with a current focus on immigration. These narratives are presented in pairs of participants, a facilitator and a user, thus promoting a dialogue between them.
